Project Description:

An existing apartment building in a Historic District of a northern suburb of Chicago was renovated and restored into 48 units providing affordable housing for the working poor. Former communal kitchens and hall baths were replaced with individual kitchens and baths. The interior beyond the public spaces was completely reconfigured to accommodate independent living apartments.

The exterior, halls, and front lounge area were renovated to meet National Historic standards. The exterior renovation restored existing divided light double hung windows, textured in and out brick masonry, and limestone brick detailing. The interior restoration included interior masonry of brick and stone, deep masonry opening returns, and a faithful restoration of historic trim at the corridors and exterior windows.
