The Rebecca Johnson Apartments is an adaptive reuse of an existing former orphanage/community center into 90 units of affordable single resident occupancy (S.R.O.) housing plus the offices of Deborah’s Place, a not-for-profit developer.
Housing units are located on the upper floors and feature private bathrooms, kitchens, abundant natural light and views of downtown Chicago. Administrative offices, a community room, and a job education center are located on the lower floors.
The original historic façade was restored and later additions were removed to allow for a large private courtyard garden with southern exposure.
